Treaty 7 Monument

The Treaty 7 Monument, erected in 1937 by the Canadian government, commemorates the 50th anniversary of the Blackfoot Treaty (Treaty 7). The monument overlooks the land where the treaty was signed in 1877 between the Blackfoot Confederacy, Stoney Nakoda, Tsuut’ina, and the Canadian government. While the monument honors the agreement, it also symbolizes the complex changes that followed, including shifts in the Blackfoot way of life.

The stone obelisk serves as both a historical marker and a reflection point. Visitors here are invited to contemplate the journey of reconciliation and understanding between the Blackfoot and Canada. The sweeping views of the plains and the Bow River valley below remind us of the enduring connection between the Blackfoot and their ancestral lands.
